VERY OFTEN STRUCK BY SOME OF THE
LEAVES IN THE FOREST. SOME OF THEM
ARE HUGE! WHETHER BRIGHT GREEN WITH
LIFE, OR A RICH BROWN OF DECAY, THEY ARE
ALWAYS VERY INTERESTING, SMALL OR LARGE.
LOOKING CLOSE AT THE TINY VEINS AND
DETAILS OF A LEAF IS WHAT THIS PAINTING
IS ABOUT. ADMITTEDLY, I WENT A LITTLE
OVER THE TOP WITH THE DETAIL, BUT
JUST FELT THAT IT NEEDED IT.

ISLAND IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE OFF THE
COAST OF FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND. EMBEDDED
LIKE A GRANITE JEWEL IN THE TURQUOISE
OF THE REEF, IT'S WELL WORTH THE EFFORT AND
EXPENSE TO GET THERE. THIS PAINTING, THOUGH
RELATIVELY SMALL, MANAGES TO CONJURE
UP MUCH OF THE LUMINOUS DELIGHT OF THE
ISLAND, THE LAGOON & SOME OF THE VIBRANT LIFE. |

BAREFOOT ON THE COARSE GRANITE SAND RIGHT
IN THE CREEK ITSELF, AS IT WINDS UPSTREAM
AMIDST THE RAINFOREST. SPLASHING THROUGH
THE ANKLE DEEP WATER, DODGING
WAIT-A-WHILE AND SOAKING IN THE PLAY OF
LIGHT AND SHADOW UPON THE BRIGHT COLOURS
OF THE MANY DIFFERENT FRUITS AND LEAVES
DRIFTING ALONG IN THE CLEAR WATER. |

OUR BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT
POISED IN A DELICATE BALANCE.
THROUGH OUR ACTIONS WE CAN
DETERMINE IF OUR NATURAL WORLD IS
HELD SECURE IN OUR HANDS, OR
IS ALLOWED TO SLIP AWAY THROUGH
OUR FINGERS, LEAVING ONLY A
JUMBLED DESTRUCTION.
'NATURE ICON' IS A DEPARTURE
FROM MY USUAL WORK.
THE IDEA OF A MONUMENTAL
HAND HOLDING A FOREST, WHICH
WAS THEN SLOUGHED OFF WITH
THE SIMPLE TWIST OF THE WRIST
JUST CAME TO ME ONE DAY AND I WAS
COMPELLED TO DO IT. THE THIRD
PAINTING, WITH A SMALLER HAND
HOLDING THE SPROUTING SEED IS
INTENDED AS A SYMBOL OF FRESH
PROMISE IN THE LIGHT OF NEW DAY.
